Frequently Asked Questions
What is the healthcare license exam exemption criteria?
Exemption depends on the Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirement (PQR). Each case is assessed individually, and the examination committee makes the final decision. Relevant documents must be submitted with the application.
Can I apply for a professional license in the UAE without a home country license?
No, you cannot apply for a UAE healthcare professional license without a valid license from your home country.
What is PSV in the UAE healthcare license process?
Primary Source Verification (PSV) checks the educational background, training, and experience of healthcare practitioners applying for registration. This is conducted by Data Flow, a third-party organization.
What does Good Standing Certificate (GSC) mean?
A GSC is issued by the Medical Council or regulatory body from which your prior healthcare license was issued.
How long is the Good Standing Certificate valid?
A GSC is valid for six months, and in some countries like the UK, it is only valid for three months.
What is healthcare malpractice insurance?
Evidence of malpractice insurance is required for all approved applications before a license can be issued. This insurance is usually obtained by your employer on your behalf. The license can only be issued once you have valid malpractice insurance in place.
What happens after Data Flow verification is complete?
You’ll be advised to book your healthcare license exam if required. You can take the exam while verification is ongoing, but the license will only be issued after passing the exam and completing Data Flow verification.
Do I need to take the Prometric exam only in Dubai/Abu Dhabi?
DHA utilizes Prometric, with test centers in 135 countries, allowing you to choose your exam location. DOH also has international test centers, but some specialists must take their exams locally.
How long will the healthcare professional licensing process take?
The process typically takes 8-10 weeks once all documentation is provided. Verification by Data Flow may extend this duration up to three months.
Once I get the healthcare license, how long is it valid for?
All healthcare professionals are required to renew their professional licenses annually.
Have all UAE healthcare licenses been unified? What does this mean?
Unification means that the Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR) are now standardized across authorities. However, each authority remains distinct, and you must still apply to each one if you intend to work in a specific emirate. While the requirements to qualify for a license are the same, having a DHA eligibility letter does not allow you to work freely in Sharjah or Abu Dhabi, and vice versa. To obtain a license transfer in any authority, you must first secure the original license.
What happens if I fail the exam?
If you fail the exam, you have a total of three attempts across DHA, DOH, and MOH to retake it. You will need to reapply for your license and go through the process again. There’s typically a waiting period of about six weeks before you can retake the exam. Additionally, you will have to pay the re-registration fee for DHA and any re-application fees for DOH, as well as the exam fee again to the relevant test center.
